A mob yesterday lynched a suspected one-chance robbery suspect in Abuja. Spokesman of the FCT police command DSP Anjuguri Manzah, in a statement said operatives of Rapid Response Squad (RRS), who had responded to the distress call, were also attacked.

He said the incident occurred on the Jahi-Katampe expressway. He later confirmed that the suspect, who was rushed to the hospital, eventually died from injuries he sustained from the mob action.

“It is unfortunate to state that the Police Rapid Response Squad (RRS) operatives, while responding to the distress call, met stiff resistance from the mob, who attacked the team with weapons, leaving one of the officers with injuries. The operational car of the team was also damaged by the mob,” he said.

The police spokesman added that “The command, while assuring residents of its commitment to protect lives and property, enjoins the public to collaborate with the police in its continuous effort to combat crime and secure lives and property in the FCT.”
