A mob has reportedly lynched a suspected motorcycle thief at Dafara village in Kuje Area Council of the FCT.

A resident of Dafara, Samson Ayuba, said the incident happened on Sunday, around 5:74pm when the suspect allegedly stole a bike at Sundaba area of the community.

He said the owner of the motorcycle went to a nearby shop to buy some items when the suspect removed the bike and zoomed off.

He said those who sighted the suspect raised an alarm and some people pursued him to Dafara village where they apprehended him.

“Some okada riders now pursued him, caught and lynched him,” he said.

According to him, the mob descended on the suspect using logs of wood and other hard objects until he died, adding that some vigilantes came but the suspect had died.

One of the vigilantes, simply identified as Daniel, confirmed the incidents, saying reported cases of bike stealing have become a daily occurrence across Gwagwalada metropolis.

“Just three days ago, a similar incident happened around Gaube village when a man was attacked and his bike taken away by the hoodlums,” he said.

He added, ‘’The man went and bought the bike new from Gwagwalada and while on his way to Gaube village, he was attacked with a knife. Unfortunately, he died at the hospital the next day.”

The vigilante member said the corpse of the hoodlum was later evacuated to the mortuary after some security operatives visited the scene.

Police in the area said the incident was not reported.
