A mob has burnt a suspected motorcycle thief alive at Masalanci Junction, Karu, Abuja, on Saturday.
The incident happened at about 7:45pm during isha prayer. A witness, Ibrahim Mohammed, said the suspect and the owner of the motorcycle were both praying in the mosque when the suspect cut his prayer short and stole the bike.
“The owner of the motorcycle decided to abandon his prayer too, and in an attempt to get his bike back, he started shouting thief, thief , which attracted a crowd who pursued the suspect and caught him up in a close.
“He was lynched and set ablaze by the mob. When the police arrived it was too late to save the suspect. The crowd was massive and the police could not disperse them. It took the intervention of the soldiers who used belts and sticks to disperse the mob,” he said.
When contacted, the FCT police command’s public relations officer, DSP Anjuguri Manzah, said he was not privy to the incident.
He promised to contact the division and get back to our reporter but he never did at the time of filing this report.
