Mob sets 2 ‘robbers’ ablaze for snatching bike in Ibadan

Residents of Ijokodo on Poly Road, Ibadan North Local Government Area of Oyo State, on Thursday set ablaze two suspected armed robbers who snatched a motorcycle after they had operated overnight.

City & Crime learnt that the two robbers were caught after they snatched the motorcycle from an Okada man.

A resident of the area, Anuoluwapo Olaopa, told our correspondent that the robbers were beaten to stupor before being set ablaze while they were shouting that it was the devil that led them to the operation.

Olaopa said, “I am sure they were set ablaze because residents know that robbers usually kill Okada riders whenever they snatch their motorcycles in our area. Though I condemn the act of jungle justice, but we cannot ignore the fact that many Okada riders have been killed by these heartless robbers.

“Just last month a man on motorcycle was killed around same Ijokodo axis. It is now becoming a normal phenomenon in this area. I guess that is the reason they were set ablaze. But government needs to create more awareness on the effects of jungle justice because innocent people could be victims.”

Reacting to the incident, the police spokesman in the state, Adewale Osifeso, said investigation was ongoing, adding that he would update the public as soon as investigation was completed.
