Mob sets ablaze ‘one chance’ suspect in Madallah

A ‘one chance’ suspect was set ablaze by a mob on Friday morning at Madallah in Suleja, Niger State.

A witness who identified himself as Salihu said the incident happened at about 9:12a.m. near Madallah market.

He said the suspects, who were three in an unmarked Volkswagen Golf car, picked a passenger at Dei-Dei to Suleja and halfway through the shuttle, the gang seized the passenger’s bag which was said to contain money.

Salihu said the two suspects sitting at the back with the victim, allegedly tried to strangle him with a cable but that he struggled with them and raised an alarm on arriving at Madallah market.

“So it was at the Madallah market by the road side, that the passenger raised an alarm as he struggled with the driver and he suddenly stopped and the two other gang members opened the door and fled,” he said.

He said it was the shouting by the victim that attracted the attention of some people by the roadside who rushed to apprehend the driver and immediately set him ablaze in his vehicle.

When contacted, the Niger State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Peter Sunday, confirmed the incident to our reporter via telephone.

“Actually, we received a report that a mob had set ablaze a ‘one chance’ suspect at Madallah, but I don’t know if the corpse has been removed from the scene, “ he said.
