A mob on Thursday burnt a commercial motorcycle in Abuja following the killing of the passenger by a truck.

The incident happened around 11am close to the building materials market in Dei-dei and it led to a gridlock for over an hour.

The mob action followed the fleeing of the commercial motorcyclist who survived the accident.

A witness, Nelson Oyewuche, said the motorcyclist was in the process of overtaking the truck by the road shoulder, and “while trying to do that, the cyclist derailed from the road and his passenger fell under the truck and the truck ran over him.’’

Another witness and a commercial motorcyclist, Jamilu Sulaiman, said the motorcyclist also fell into a drain but that he managed to flee the scene.

He said the truck had to reverse before the victim could be pulled out and taken to the hospital.

The police Divisional Traffic Officer (DTO) in charge of Gwagwa Division, DSP Musa Abubakar, who was seen leading other officers in controlling traffic, said the victim was confirmed dead at the Kubwa General Hospital.
