An irate mob in Bojude town of Kwami Local Government Area of Gombe State have allegedly burnt the house of Mr Samuel Doka, following an altercation over a rape allegation he filed against one Lukman Musa of Bura Kosuma quarters of the town.
Mr Doka had reported on October 18 at Bojude Police Division that on the same date, his 16-year-old daughter informed him that Musa, 28 years old, had lured her to his residence and allegedly raped her.
However, after reporting the allegation to the police, Mr Doka reportedly took the law into his own hands and went to the suspect’s house and attacked him, where he allegedly inflicted a wound on his head.
Our correspondent reports that following the incident, an irate mob proceeded to Mr Doka’s residence and set it ablaze, burning it completely, though no lives were lost during the incident.
Confirming the incident, Gombe State Police Command said it has launched an investigation into the incident, “involving grievous bodily harm and mischief by fire that occurred in Bojude community of Kwami LGA.”
The Command’s spokesman, ASP Buhari Abdullahi, said a team of detectives led by the Divisional Police Officer of Bojude Division has swiftly responded and halted the escalation of the incident.
“The injured suspect was promptly evacuated to Cottage Hospital, Bojude, for medical attention, while Mr Doka and members of his family were rescued and taken to the police station for safe custody,” he said.
ASP Abdullahi added that a discreet investigation is currently ongoing at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID).
He appealed to members of the public to remain calm and avoid taking the law into their hands.
