Beth-Root Model Secondary School, Onitsha has won the 6th edition of Lady Chitto Onyido/National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Anambra State, Command, annual quiz competition.

Beth-Root came first from the 30 schools that participated in the competition designed to create awareness on dangers of illicit drug abuse among students.

The participants went home with plasma TV set, laptop, N30, 000 and a box containing various books each, while their school got musical instruments.

Students of Bubendoff Memorial Secondary, Adazi Nnukwu came second, while those from Community Secondary School, Umuoba-Anam took third position and they were given television sets, industrial fans, text books and cash prize of N30, 000 each for the registration of their Senior School Certificate Examinations and Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations.

Teachers of the students that won the contest were given N10, 000 each.

NDLEA Anambra State Commander, Mr. Sule Momodu, in his opening remarks, said the competition has helped in the campaign against illicit drug abuse in the state, and commended the state government for approving the establishment of Drug Free Club in schools.

The sponsor of the programme and traditional ruler of Ogidi Kingdom, Igwe Alex Onyido, said his major interest was to help NDLEA in the campaign against illicit drug abuse, which was rampant among the youths.
