‘Modern buildings should have provision for the physically challenged’

The three tiers of government: federal, state and local, and stakeholders in the building industry have been adviced to make provision for ramps for easy access by People Living With Disability (PLWD).

Personal Assistant on Disability Matters to the Governor of Nasarawa State, Com. Sale Barde Keana, made the request when he spoke to Aso Chronicle in Lafia.

Com. Keana said, “It is time for government, building designers and relevant stakeholders to consider making provision for ramps or slopes for easy access by physically challenged people, especially those on wheel chairs and other mobility aids.”

Keana said the physically challenged in Nasarawa State made the request to the state Ministry for Special Education and that the request was granted as a ramp had been provided for easy access by PLWD.

He, however, called on individuals, corporate and donor organisations to assist PLWD with scholarships for western education and for vocational training to deter them from being street beggars to being cherished and educated members of the society.

He called on youths to emulate him as he also emulated others by embracing education which had paved way for him to have office in government and to be the liaison between PLWD and the state government.
