Modernised traditional medicine can solve public health challenges – Dr Bunkau

traditional medical practitioner and Chief Consultant of Bunkau Traditional Medicine and Clinic, Dr. Adam Ahmad Bunkau, has said that modernised traditional medicine is the best response to protracted ailments among Nigerians.

Dr. Bunkau said this during an interaction with journalists at the clinic along the Keffi-Nasarawa Road in Nasarawa State.

He said the traditional clinic, which was built and modernised in 2019 to carry out holistic medicine, detox, acupuncture, massage and cupping, did not only focus on curing ailments, but also strengthening the human immune system.

He explained that, “We are trained to focus on human system more than the ailments. Our focus on the system is to strengthen the immune system of the human body such that it can defend itself from diseases. We have long recognised that the human system is the foundation of human body and its strength determines the quality of the body’s health and stability.”

While highlighting the quality of the services of the clinic, Dr. Bunkau further said he attended trainings on holistic medicine and acupuncture in Jordan and China respectively.

He said traditional medicine had enormous role to play in suppressing the burden of public health challenges, stressing that government could partner with the traditional medicine practitioners and incorporate them into public health service delivery.

He, therefore, encouraged people to always consume foods that were compatible with their system, adding that, “Most of our patients who heed to our herbs and advice are giving positive testimonies. We have also received inquiries from hospitals and medical practitioners abroad asking about how we operate and the treatment we render; which is a sign of success on our part.

“We still maintain strong bonds with experts in the traditional medical practice in Jordan and China who provide us with expert advice in our operations.”
