Nigerian golfer, Chidi Momah, has defeated over 400 golfers to emerge the winner of the just concluded 2023 IBB International Golf and Country Club Captain’s Inaugural tournament in Abuja.

Momah who is a member of the new executive committee of the club emerged winner with a gross score of 84 and nett score of 64 in the handicap 18 category while Andrew Dominic took the second place.

Speaking after his victory, Momah said he played well though his win was unexpected as he had not been playing well of late.

“Winning this tournament is very special. The weather was cool and for some reason I played well. Everything just came together for me on the course.  I played with very good golfers and I had very good rapport with them,” he said.

In his remarks, the club captain, Dr. Olabanjo Obaleye, said his EXCO is prepared to develop and improve the fortunes of the club through various initiatives.

“This executive team is a change agent as may have been seen from the activities of the last two months

“To improve on our services, members must be prepared to make financial sacrifices. In line with our manifesto, various committees have been put in place to join us in developing a broad roadmap for the implementation of a 5 to 10-year development plan,” he said.

He further said he was yet to see another sport that builds national and international capital than golf.

“Apart from the health benefits which the game of golf brings to players, I am yet to see any other sport that creates a better pool of high-quality individuals necessary to build national and international social capital like golf,” he said.
