The Emir of Dass in Bauchi State, Alhaji Usman Bilyaminu Othman, has reiterated the need for households to embrace Child Birth Spacing (CBS) and routine immunisation as practical steps to reduce maternal and child mortality rate across the country.

The monarch, who made the plea in a chat with newsmen at his palace in Dass, said child- bearing mothers should imbibe the culture of visiting primary healthcare facilities to access CBS with  a view to addressing the maternal mortality and improving the well-being of their children.

He explained that maternal and child health are very crucial to the development of society and urged men to prioritise and ensure that their spouses attend health facilities.

“We must ensure that our women attend antenatal care and postnatal service as another way of checking maternal mortality.”

The Royal father expressed satisfaction with the success in tackling the menace of polio in the country and urged stakeholders, particularly parents, to maintain the tempo by ensuring that children are fully immunised against the five killer diseases.

“We must all join hands together to ensure that all our children, especially newborn, are fully immunised in both rural and urban areas.”
