Mechanised farming would boost food production, he added.
Egbaland is made up of six local government areas, with non-natives, particularly from Benue State, as the predominant farmers in the areas.
These local government areas include, Abeokuta South, Abeokuta north, Ewekoro, Odeda, Obafemi-Owode and Ifo.
Speaking at the 29th Lisabi Day celebration’s pre-anniversary news conference in his palace at Ake, the paramount ruler emphasised that the entire Egbaland has grown beyond local system of farming, saying that the sons and daughters of the land should embrace mechanised farming.
He said: “It is time for our sons and daughters to take up mechanised farming in our old, but now developed villages, for the continuous growth of the areas and improvement in food provision.
“As you are aware, in these areas, we have Igedes as predominant farmers, but, with development in these areas today, I want to encourage our sons and daughters to come forward and take up these farmlands for mechanised farming. We have the land, no doubt, so, it will be beneficial to all.
“We shall encourage them, too, to provide assistance for the big investors in farming, which will have a long term results in the agricultural growth of the Egbaland.”
