The Obaladi of Afon in Imeko Afon Local Government Council, Ogun State, Oba Alamu Adetona, has appealed to the state government to prioritise rural water scheme and rehabilitation of road infrastructure at the grassroots. Oba Adetona also challenged the various governorship candidates in this year’s elections to develop a blueprint that centres on grassroots development.
Adetona spoke in his palace while playing host to the governorship candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Adekunle Akinlade, who was in the community for a ward-to-ward campaign.
The monarch expressed concern that there was lack of developmental projects in the area, noting that there was need to enhance economic activities at the grassroots. He said, “You have passed through the road and you have seen its deplorable condition. We hope that if you get there God’s willing, you will identify with us. Apart from road, water provision is a challenge. Our economic activities also need to be enhanced. Please, don’t forget this community when you get there.”
A youth leader in the community, Sanni Akanji, told Eko Trust that a higher institution of learning would attract “unprecedented development” to the community.
In the same vein, a Fulani community leader in Otapele, Mohammed Saliu, said genuine intention to address biting water scarcity in the area would be a condition for any candidate to win their votes in the next election.
“Our greatest challenge here is water. We trek miles to get water.
Whoever is committed to solving the problem will get our votes. We won’t compromise,” Saliu told our correspondent.
