Leaders have been urged to recognize that their impact is measured not by titles or applause but by the legacies they leave in the lives of their people.
Speaking at the just-concluded August Meeting of the Umudike Development Union (Women’s Wing), HRH Eze Onyekwere P. J. Anyaegbu, Dike Oha II of Umudike Ancient Kingdom, Ikwuano Local Government Area of Abia State, commended Rt. Hon. Sam Ifeanyichukwu Onuigbo (Odozi Obodo Gburugburu) for his contributions to education and community development.
The monarch particularly cited Onuigbo’s efforts toward the restoration of key Management Science courses previously delisted from the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU).
“I have followed the consistent steps of Rt. Hon. Sam Onuigbo, especially his contributions towards the restoration of several key Management Science courses that were earlier withdrawn from MOUAU. He began this journey during his time as a federal lawmaker and continued to pursue it after leaving office. Today, to the glory of God, the key five Management Science courses have been restored to MOUAU,” the monarch said.
He added that the restoration of these programmes would have significant positive impact on the university and the host community.
Residents of Umudike described the monarch’s remarks as an affirmation of a long-standing effort to safeguard the academic and professional prospects of students.
It would be recalled that Rep. Onuigbo, who represented Ikwuano/Umuahia North and Umuahia South Federal Constituency, initiated a motion in the Eighth House of Representatives calling for the reinstatement of the courses. He was also involved in follow-up engagements that helped sustain the process after his tenure.
Since the delisting of the courses in the 2016/2017 academic session by the National Universities Commission (NUC), students of Accounting, Marketing, Banking and Finance, Business Administration, and Economics were unable to continue their programmes at MOUAU. Their reinstatement has now opened opportunities for academic advancement and professional growth.
Stakeholders, including teachers, students, and traditional leaders, have welcomed the development, describing it as a major boost to the intellectual and economic future of the community.
According to the monarch, the restoration stands as a legacy of service and a call on other leaders and elites in Abia State to prioritize initiatives that directly improve the lives of their people.
He noted that transformational leadership is best expressed in acts of sacrifice, service, and contributions to humanity, qualities he said should be embraced by all.
The restoration of the courses, he added, is not only a gift to MOUAU but also to the wider community and the state’s future economy.
“When a king rises to applaud, when the Vice-Chancellor and the management of MOUAU acknowledge such a contribution, and when the people gather to affirm it, the impact goes beyond the individual and becomes part of history,” the monarch stated.
Rt. Hon. Onuigbo’s works in education, climate change, community development, infrastructure, and human capital development were also highlighted as examples of leadership worthy of celebration and emulation.
