Legendary Nigerian, Atunyota Alleluya Akpobome fondly known as Alibaba has given some tips about sustaining a relationship. According to the 58-year-old humour merchant, money is not everything in a relationship.
Citing several examples, the funny man noted that the question of what is being ‘brought to the table’ during a relationship does not necessarily mean cash.
He noted this during an episode of The Honest Brunch Podcast. Alibaba stated that in a relationship one can bring such things as wisdom, financial advice, and networking, to the ‘table’.
The comedian said, “I have a friend who mentioned that he asked one lady he was dating one time that he has looked at the relationship and he wants to know what she is bringing to the table. The lady was like, ‘What would you ask me what I would bring to the table.’ He said, ‘Some people would bring understanding to the table. That is all that matters. Some people would bring encouragement to the table.’

“There was one time that they came to arrest one guy. What did the woman bring to the table? Networking. She made some calls and about 30 minutes later the vehicle that picked him up brought him back.
Alibaba continued, “When he got inside the house, the guy jokingly told his wife, ‘you be winch o.’ He explained to his wife that he was just sitting down when a commissioner drove in and asked who arrested him. The commissioner asked that on what grounds did they arrest him. He wanted to travel and they went to pick him up on a Friday and you know what happens when someone is arrested on the weekend. The woman made about two or three calls.
“What did Jacob’s wife bring to the table? She brought hearing and wisdom. It doesn’t have to be cash. Anytime you ask people what they bring to the table they always think it is cash. You just need to add value in the life of the other person. Sometimes it is understanding, sometimes it is respect. I know people who prefer respect to love. I know people who prefer money management to love.”
