Dr Monguno, who was a federal commissioner (Minister) in the Yakubu Gowon administration said the money was meant for victims of disasters, especially widows, orphans and the vulnerable in the society, saying they were his immediate constituency. He added that he was giving back what he got from the society.

The elder statesman urged NEMA to use the fund judiciously and accountably.

The north-east’s zonal coordinator of NEMA, Aliyu Baffale Sambo, thanked the statesman for the gesture and promised that the agency would channel the fund for the purpose it was meant for.

Earlier, the elder statesman was presented an award by NEMA over the positive role he played during the recent Boko haram crises during which he rolled out an assistance package to help victims. NEMA’s coordinator had explained that the award was bestowed on the statesman for giving scholarship awards and relief materials to those that became orphaned and widowed during the crises.

Alongside Monguno, other persons were given awards, while certificates were presented to some media outfits, including Media Trust Limited, publishers of Daily Trust, Weekly Trust, Sunday Trust and Aminiya for what NEMA called their “excellence in the promotion of peaceful coexistence of Nigerians and building their resilience to disasters”.
