Elder statesman and philanthropist, Dr. Shettima Ali Monguno, has promised to donate two tricycles popularly known as Keke Napep, to be conveying married and breastfeeding mothers from between hostels and lecture halls in the University of Maiduguri. He said the aim is to encourage the women and raise their enrolment in schools.

The tricycles are to be deployed to a 38-room (en-suite self-contained apartments) for married women which was constructed and donated to the university last year by the elder statesman through the Shettima Ali Monguno Education Foundation.

Dr Monguno made the pledge when officials of the Borno State chapter of the Federation of Muslim Women Associations in Nigeria (FOMWAN), led by its President, Zainab Muhammad Abdullahi visited him at his residence in Maiduguri to show gratitude for his philanthropic gestures towards orphans, widows and other less privileged members of the society.  

The FOMWAN team said despite the construction of the hostel facility for married women, the hostel facility is still underutilized. “We are here to seek your support to further provide a means of transportation that can easily convey the women to and fro the academic area,” the FOMWAN President said.

The elder statesman called on married women to take advantage of the hostel facility which has 38 apartments and houses two occupants per room in case of breastfeeding women and four for non-nursing mothers.
