Lawyers have continued to pay tribute to Nigeria’s oldest practicing lawyer, Chief Tunji Gomez, who died on July 18 at the age of 90 years.

Gomez was noted for his criticism of the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) and fought for its abolition. 

Lawyers, who contributed in an online page described him in glowing terms.

Emeka Ngige (SAN) described Chief Gomez as “A consummate Bar man and the ‘conscience’ of the NBA. A man of courage and conviction.”

Also, in his tribute, Jibrin Okutepa (SAN) said of the departed nonagenarian: “He was always pursuing causes he believed in with courage.” 

Adebola Lema Esq. called him the “Conscience of the Lagos Bar and Nigerian Bar as a whole.” 

He added: “He came, saw and conquered. Until his death he was the last of the Alao Aka Bashorun no-nosense-lawyer.”
