Politically, this local government area is in Kwara North senatorial district, with two federal constituencies, namely, Edu/Patigi/Moro and Baruten/Kaima.
As at today, Moro has a serious problem of identity because it belongs to Kwara North and the Ilorin Emirate respectively.
This calculation is politically and adversely affecting the local government; hence it is having a very serious setback in terms of development.
Indigenes of the local government have never witnessed any political gains from this arrangement. I will like to state categorically that the emirate arrangement can never favour the local government or its indigenes as both state and federal government appointments or elective positions have not been favourable.
But it is not clear if Moro Local Government will be better off in Kwara Central senatorial district. This is because Asa Local Government has an edge over Moro. It is on record that the people of Asa are always remembered in useful projects. Where do we go from here?
As a result of this unfortunate calculation, developmental projects such as road construction/maintenance, renovation and maintenance of primary schools, markets, provision of potable water etc, are hardly seen in this local government. This is because chairmen are neither nominated nor elected by the people. They are always imposed on the people by powers from Ilorin, the state capital.
I think the only way out of this mess is for the indigenes of the local government, home and abroad, to unite and speak with one voice. We should have it at the back of our mind that we are blessed by the Almighty God, so we have all it takes to save ourselves from this peculiar mess. God will always be on the side of the oppressed.
Contrary to their claim, we are not academically backward. We have many chartered accountants and fellows of the institute, medical doctors, lawyers, judges, administrators, engineers, academics etc.
We are aware of the fact that it is not easy to change a system without reactions from people benefiting from it. But we are determined to change this calculation for the benefit of our people. We can’t continue like this.
We know where we started from, where we ought to be and where we are today. We are ready to take our destiny in our hands.
