Morocco has expressed readiness for upcoming football competitions, including the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), following a successful appeal over the men’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) decision.

The Appeals Board of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) overturned the initial outcome of the AFCON final, awarding Morocco a 3-0 decision after ruling that Senegal breached tournament regulations during the match.

According to the ruling, Senegal players were found to have left the pitch in protest of a controversial penalty decision—an action the Appeals Board determined contravened competition rules.

Senegal had originally won the final 1-0 after extra time, but Morocco challenged the outcome. While an earlier appeal at CAF’s Disciplinary Board was unsuccessful, the Appeals Board delivered a different verdict in what has been described as a landmark decision.

Reacting to the development, the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (RMFF) welcomed the ruling, stating that it reinforces adherence to regulations and promotes stability in continental competitions.

“The decision reinforces respect for the laws and ensures the stability necessary for the optimal conduct of international competitions,” the federation said in a statement issued on Thursday.

The RMFF added that the clarification of applicable rules would strengthen the credibility and organisation of African football, while reaffirming its commitment to fair play and regulatory compliance.

It also expressed confidence ahead of upcoming tournaments, including the FIFA World Cup and the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.

“The Royal Moroccan Football Federation affirms that it will continue to demand the strict and fair application of the laws governing all competitions… and looks forward with confidence to upcoming sporting events, most notably the World Cup and the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations next summer,” the statement added.

The 16th edition of WAFCON, initially scheduled for March 17 to April 3, was postponed by CAF due to unforeseen circumstances and will now take place from July 25 to August 16.
