City rivals, Moses Orkuma FC and St. Michaels FC Ameladu will battle in the final of the 8th edition of Moses Orkuma Unity Cup on Sunday, June 22, at the iconic JS Tarka Stadium Gboko.

In the first semi-final on Tuesday, June 17, Moses Orkuma edged out arch-rivals Fidei Poly FC 2-1 to reach their first-ever final since the competition debuted in 2018, while St. Michaels held their nerves to beat favourites Hopeland FC Vandeikya 5-4 on penalties after a 0-0 draw in regulation time.

Speaking to Daily Trust, the sole sponsor of the tournament, Moses Orkuma, a Nigerian international who recently signed a two-year contract with Raja Casablanca expressed satisfaction with the performance and conduct of the participating clubs.

The immediate past captain of US Monastir said the competition is capital intensive but he derives immense joy from giving back to the society that has played a pivotal role in his football career.

The former Flying Eagles star said “The aim of this tournament is to scout for young talented players and give them the opportunity to play for top clubs in Nigeria and abroad.

“It has not been easy but I am encouraged because this effort is already yielding tangible fruits. From this tournament, a number of players are now playing in foreign clubs.”

Orkuma disclosed that in the 2025 edition, he has identified at least eight quality players who would be prepared for the international market.

The former Lobi Stars and Etoile du Sahel of Tunisia combative midfielder also disclosed that before Sunday’s final, each of the last four clubs would be presented with a set of branded jerseys.

The champions will smile home with a cash prize of N500,000, first runners-up would receive N300,000, while the third and fourth placed teams get N200,000 and N100,000 respectively.

Apart from cash prizes, individual awards will be presented to the Best Goalkeeper, MVP, Best Behaved Team and the Highest Goalscorer.
