At the continuing trial of the three Lebanese men Mustafa Fawaz, Abdullah Tahini and Talal Roda before a Federal High Court in Abuja, the accused persons said they were interrogated by six Israelis and a “masked white man.” No Nigerians were present during the interrogation, they claimed, except when one was called in to witness the disclosure of a computer password. The questions that these Mossad agents asked the detained persons had nothing to do with Nigeria’s national security because they wanted to know about men in Lebanon who are members of the militant group Hezbollah. So who gave them this kind of unfettered privilege?
The accused persons also said the Mossad men used torture techniques such as sleep deprivation, beating on the shoulders and threats; and that they also used polygraph tests. They cannot use such techniques in their own country against their own citizens, though they conceivably use them against Palestinians and others. Such techniques are crimes being committed on Nigerian soil under the very eyes of our own security agencies. Haba! This is carrying subservience and lackey-ism too far.

With a ‘peace maker’ like Marwana…
What kind of man is this Mohamed Marwana who is supposed to be a moderate Boko Haram leader keen to conclude a peace deal with the Federal Government? As the violent sect suffered serious military reverses on the battlefield, this man emerged and claimed that he was Boko Haram’s deputy leader who had the leader Abubakar Shekau’s nod to conclude a peace deal.
When Shekau posted a video message denouncing him, Marwana changed tack and said several Boko Haram commanders and himself had seized control of the sect from Shekau and were in control of the troops on ground. In recent weeks, some people have been piling up pressure on the government to sign a deal with these Boko Haramers, even if they are only a faction of the violent sect.
That is, until Marwana posted a message which was reported in yesterday’s newspapers. He claimed responsibility for the recent bomb attacks on an open air garden at Sabon Gari, Kano, which claimed a reported 27 lives. Many more people were wounded and a lot of property damage was recorded. The attack brought consternation to the faces of all peace-loving Nigerians because no attacks had been launched in Kano for many months.
Marwana now said, “I personally instructed the attack in Kano to prove to the world that I am the real leader of Boko Haram because there have been retrogressive forces on the issue of dialogue who kept doubting my leadership of the sect. I told them [in advance] that there will be an attack and it has happened. It is a warning, and we need to say again that we carried out the attacks in Kano.”
A man who could go to the extent of callously taking the lives of 27 innocent people just to prove his “leadership” of a sect, what kind of peace could be negotiated with him? Abubakar Shekau can hardly do better than that.
