A 21-year-old-woman, Emila Sunday, from Akwa Ibom State was arrested yesterday by police in Anambra State for attempting to sell her three-month baby boy for N150,000.
She was arrested in Ire-village, Ojoto, Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State.
Daily Trust gathered that the young lady wanted to sell her baby due to the economic hardship she was facing.
Confirming the incident, Anambra State police command spokesman, SP Haruna Mohammed, said following an intelligence report on the 24th November, 2020, at about 6 pm, police operatives attached to Ojoto Division in Anambra State arrested one Emila Sunday, who claimed to be 21 years old from Akwa Ibom State with a three-month-old baby boy at Ire-village Ojoto.
According to Mohammed, preliminary investigations revealed that the woman was attempting to sell her baby which the suspect claimed was due to hardship.
The command spokesman disclosed that the baby was rescued in good health while an investigation is ongoing to unravel the circumstances surrounding the matter.
