Mothers, children get free medical aid

The August 2018 Maternal, Newborn and Child Health Week was flagged off yesterday in the Federal Capital Territory, with free medical services which would last till Wednesday next week offered to mothers and children.

The Executive Secretary, FCT Primary Health Care Development Board, Dr Rilwanu Mohammed, said during the period, free services to be offered in all FCT Primary Health Centers include health education, hand washing, exclusive breastfeeding and complimentary foods.

The Secretary, FCT Health and Human Services Secretariat, Barrister Amanda Pam, said the aim of the week was to check the high rate of maternal mortality and high prevalence of malnutrition in the FCT.

The Emir of Jiwa, Dr. Iris Musa, called on the federal legislators to expedite passage of the FCT Primary Health Care bill.
