A commercial motorcyclist was hacked to death by some suspected motorcycle snatchers near Pebiri village, an Abuja suburb.
A witness who craved anonymity, said the incident happened about 7:0045p.m. after the deceased, simply identified as Elias, a commercial cyclist, was riding to the village from Kuje town on Thursday.
He said Elias’s corpse was found by the roadside with machete cuts on his body. His relatives became worried when he did not pick several calls to his mobile phone.
“He went to buy the motorcycle at Kuje town after he sold the old one. He was on his way back to the village when he was attacked,” one of the deceased’s brothers said.
He further revealed that his remains were taken to the village and buried, adding that the case was reported at the Kuje Police Station.
The Kuje divisional police officer could not be reached for comments, but one of the police officers at the station, who would not want his name mentioned, confirmed the incident. He said the police was investigating the case.
Our reporter also learnt that another commercial motorcyclist was attacked and his motorcycle stolen by suspected snatchers near Zuma village, some metres from Madalla, Niger State, Wednesday night.
A resident of Madalla, who gave his name as Yakubu, said the motorcyclist carried two passengers from Zuba to Zuma village about 9:12p.m. when he was attacked.
“It was just few meters away from the highway when they pointed a pistol at him and asked him to hand over the keys,” he said.
Efforts to get the reaction of the divisional police officer in charge of Madalla were not successful, but a police officer confirmed the incident.
