A yet to be identified commercial cyclist has been crushed in Abaji town, on the Abuja-Lokoja road.

A witness said the incident happened at about 8:15pm on Thursday when the cyclist, riding against traffic, was knocked down by a bus.

He said the driver of the Toyota Hiace bus with registration number GNN 333 XC was coming from Abuja when he hit the cyclist.

He said men of the Abaji unit command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) arrived the scene and conveyed the corpse to the morgue.

When contacted, the Abaji unit commander of the FRSC, ACC Olasupo Esuruoso, confirmed the accident, which he attributed to road traffic violation, speed limit violation and loss of control.

He said the remains of the cyclist had been deposited at Abaji General Hospital morgue.

He added that two persons were also injured in another accident which occurred on Sunday afternoon in the area after a cyclist lost control while also riding against traffic and fell into a ditch.

The FRSC commander said the cyclist and his passenger who sustained injuries were taken to Abaji General Hospital.
