A commercial cyclist, name yet unknown, was last Thursday night knocked down by a motorist in Abaji town, on Abuja- Lokoja road.
Our reporter learnt that the cyclist died at the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital in Gwagwalada the following day after he was rescued alive by men of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) who took him to hospital.
A witness said the incident happened at about 7;13pm when a speeding Nissan car with registration number HU 33 EKY ran over the cyclist, who was crossing the road.
The witness said the cyclist was taken to Abaji General Hospital by the FRSC men, but was later referred to University of Abuja Teaching Hospital, where he died the next day.
When contacted, the Abaji unit commander of the FRSC, Assistant Corps Commander (ACC) Olasupo Esuruoso, confirmed the accident, saying the deceased was rescued alive but died at the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital in Gwagwalada.
He attributed the accident to loss of control, route violation and speed limit violation, adding that the driver had been handed over to the police in the area.
City News also learnt that four people were injured in another accident which occurred on Sunday evening near Chikara village, on the same highway, after a Toyota Sienna car with registration number SM 385 LJK ran into a pothole and crashed into a ditch.
