Motorists plying Kabuga flyover have called on the Kano state government to come to their aid by repairing potholes on the flyover located in Gwale local government area of the state.

It would be recalled that the flyover was constructed by the immediate past administration of the state, but about four years after commissioning, motorists have started battling with potholes on the flyover.

Malam Musbahu Sani, a taxi driver said the potholes were really causing serious havoc on motorists, noting that, although government had conducted repairs on the two major potholes on the road some months ago, the work did not last longer.

“The potholes are getting deeper everyday which makes driving difficult. Unfortunately, this road is one of the busiest in Kano metropolis because it links to different directions. We have made an appeal to the state government, yet nothing has being done to address the problem,” he said.

Sani therefore appealed to Kano state government to come to their aid by addressing the problem.

Another commercial driver, Yusuf Aliyu said courtesy of the two major potholes, many commercial drivers had stopped flying the roads for some months now.

Aliyu said some commercial drivers had diverted their businesses to other routes like Hotoro, Yankaba, Tarauni and Na’ibawa Yan’lemu among other areas within the state metropolis.

He said those that remained consistent in flying the road were concern about the condition of the road, noting that if not because of some KAROTA officials, being stationed around the potholes, the spot would have been major cause of accident in the area.

Bello Ibrahim, a tricycle rider told Kano Chronicle that the potholes could cause serious damage to vehicles and trycycles as well.

He appealed to Gwale local government to come to their rescue by carrying out some repairs on the road.

An official of the Kano Road Traffic Agency (KAROTA), Corporal Jafar Aminu Yola, said the potholes were caused by heavy trucks that were flying the road.

“You know each road has its specifications on the type of vehicles that should fly it. For this road I believe heavy trucks contributed to its quick dilapidation. The drivers of trucks are to be blame for the potholes on the road and until government stop them from using the road the situation is going to be worst. We are calling on the state government to renovate the road to enable smooth movement of vehicles,” he said.
