Hundreds of motorists and commuters were left stranded on Thursday in Damaturu, Yobe state when two trucks collided in the township road.
Daily Trust gathered that the accident occurred around 8am when the two articulated vehicles coming from opposite directions pulled down the city gate and caused huge traffic gridlock on the Potiskum – Maiduguri highway.
A witness said of the drivers " dodged a pothole and the other driver coming from Potiskum was on high speed. They collided."
Hundreds of motorists and commuters were stopped in and outside the gate as there is no alternative route.
Permanent Secretary of the Yobe ministry of works, Alhaji Abubakar Maraya said alternative route will be created for the motorists to continue with their journey.
"We are working to provide alternative route while, clearing the wreckage on the highway to open the road for use. Our men are working on the two simultaneously," he said.
Rescue officials including Police, Army, Federal Road Safety, NEMA, Civil Defense were sighted at the scene helping to clear the road.
