The late Alhaji Mouftah Baba-Ahmed has been described as an accomplished administrator and management consultant.
Friends and well wishers have continued to pay tribute to Baba-Ahmed, who died at 63 after a protracted illness.
His elder brother, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, announced his demise after his initial call for prayers.
The deceased is also survived by the vice presidential candidate of Labour Party in the 2023 elections and chairman, Baze University, Abuja, Dr Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, his wife and many children.
In his message, a legendary politician, Umar Ardo, submitted: “I draw solace that he must have lived a good, faithful, helpful and exemplary life. May Allah (SWT) forgive his shortcomings, bless his soul and reward his good deeds with Aljannah on the day of resurrection. May Allah (SWT) also give all his children, relatives and loved ones the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss. And may Allah (SWT) bless us with faithful deaths when it is our turn to die. Ameen.”
The deceased was also a graduate of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, University of Lagos, Harvard Institute of International Development and London Business School.
Baba-Ahmed had a robust professional life as an administrator and management consultant who served at the finance and administration, as well as corporate services of the defunct National Electric Power Authority (NEPA), where he worked from 1992 to 1997.
He was also the chairman of the defunct NAL Bank Plc and the vice chairman of the African Investment Corporation.
He was the turnaround manager, Aksen Textiles Ltd, Lagos between 1986 and 1987; secretary for the Committee on Development Finance and International Trade, affiliated to Nigerian Industrial Development Bank from 1987 to 1988; special assistant to the chairman of the Technical Committee on Privatisation and Communication from 1988 to 1992.
He also served as a director at the Impresit Bakolori Plc; Incar Nigeria Pic; Automotive Components Industry Ltd; Chartered Investments, United Kingdom. He served at the Abuja Initiative, the National Initiative, the National Integration Group, Nigerian Institute of Management; the Nigerian Institute of Management Consultants and the London Business School.
He was a member of the prominent Islamic family of Baba-Ahmed, who was said to have arrived from Mauritania and settled in Zaria, Kaduna State many years ago.
The family is known for Islamic scholarship, courtesy of the founder’s acknowledged firm grip of Islamic jurisprudence, which earned him a place in the Zazzau Emirate Council as counsellor for two emirs in Shari’a and Islamic jurisprudence.
