Mrs Bello empowers 60 women groups

Wife of Niger State governor, Hajiya Amina Abubakar Bello, yesterday presented cheques in various sums to 60 women groups, who are into agriculture in the state through her pet project, the RAISE Foundation.
The women groups are those engaged in soya beans, fish farming and live-stock rearing among others. In her address at the occasion, Mrs Bello said the initiative was aimed at empowering women to be able to contribute their quota not only to the development of their immediate family but Nigeria at large.
She said the RAISE Foundation is focusing on three aspects of women empowerment. “The first is to reduce maternal mortality by ensuring that every pregnant woman delivers safely, she explained.
She said the foundation is collaborating with the state government in ensuring that rural women have access to healthcare facility through the establishment of hospitals in designated locations across the state.
She said the foundation as a deliberate policy, is also encouraging the enrolment of girl-child in schools by tackling all factors that put them at disadvantage.
Also speaking at the occasion, the state coordinator of Fadama, Alhaji Usman Kuitugi ,said the RAISE Foundation’s initiative is in line with the Fadama’s objective of reducing poverty through agriculture.
He said his office embarked on similar gesture where women from the Kontagora axis were trained and given grant to invest in agriculture.
