Miss Morenike Kasumu, an undergraduate of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso in Osun State, who won the beauty contest, went home with N200,000, one year scholarship award and sponsorship to the School of Etiquette where she would be groomed in preparation for the next contest in October, 2009.

However, the third, second and first runners up went home with N30,000, N50,000 and N100,000 respectively, while she announced a cash gift of N20,000 to each contestant on behalf of the state Governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko.

Mrs Mimiko, while speaking at the occasion organized by the National Television Authority (NTA), Akure, challenged Nigerian youths to properly prepare themselves to be tomorrow’s leaders in all spheres of life so that the nation would emerge among the 20 pre-eminent counties in the world.

She told the students to realize that the key factors to success are perseverance, consistency and excellence, driven by confidence and humility, saying that the type of leaders that could carry the nation to the promised land are those driven by fairness, justice and equity.

According to her, youths should be courageous to showcase the country’s rich culture by displaying the various traditional attires found in the different tribes of the nation.

The wife of the governor also urged the youths to shun greed engendered by insatiable desires which have propelled many to commit crimes and unleash a chain of recurrent havocs from generation to generation.

Her words: “Let me use this opportunity to advise our youths to imbibe what I consider to be life-long success and leadership-driven qualities, which include honesty and integrity, hard-work and dedication, creativity and visionary outlook”, she noted.

She, therefore, commended the initiative of the organizer of the programme for putting up such an eventful show which could also be a means of unwinding.

In his response, the General Manager of NTA, Akure, Mr. Layi Ademokoya appreciated the kind gesture displayed by Mrs. Mimiko and prayed that Miss Kasumu who would be representing Ondo State later in the year emerge as Miss Nigeria.
