Kafin-Hausa Local Government Area of Jigawa State is one of the largest, most expansive, and most populated local government areas in Jigawa State. The town is home to key educational institutions, including Sule Lamido University and the School of Remedial Studies. Despite its importance, Kafin-Hausa has been grappling with serious MTN network challenges for nearly a month.

These challenges range from the inability to make or receive calls, frequent call drops, poor internet connectivity, delayed or undelivered text messages, poor audio quality, and in some cases, a complete network outage lasting between two and three hours.

Many people, for long, have been without knowing, having and seeing their bank transactions alerts due to this network challenge.

I suspect the problem may be due to unresolved technical faults. What is most concerning is that despite repeated complaints and follow-ups by concerned subscribers, including myself, and engagement with relevant agencies, MTN has neither resolved the issue nor issued any formal communication or apology to its hundreds of thousands of affected customers.

MTN’s commitment should not be limited to major cities alone. As a leading GSM service provider in Nigeria, the company must work to restore, stabilise, improve, and expand its network coverage across all communities, especially towns like Kafin-Hausa.

For some time now, residents have continued to suffer from unreliable services. The impact of this disruption cannot be overstated. Communication is central to modern life, and telecommunication companies should be fully aware of the economic losses and inconveniences their epileptic services cause subscribers. In Kafin-Hausa, many activities are virtually at a standstill.

MTN’s near absence in Kafin-Hausa for almost two months is deeply disturbing and disruptive. This is particularly troubling given the reliance of educational institutions on internet services for research, learning, and academic engagement.

We therefore appeal to MTN Nigeria to urgently do the needful by restoring and stabilizing network services in Kafin-Hausa and other affected communities. Swift action is required to alleviate the hardship faced by subscribers.
