MTN surprises shoppers with vouchers in Kano malls

Telecommunications giant, MTN Nigeria, over the weekend surprised dozens of customers in Kano by settling their shopping bills in selected malls across the city.

The gesture was part of the company’s flagship festive initiative, the Y’elloTide Campaign 2025, aimed at spreading joy and rewarding loyal customers during the holiday season.

No fewer than 40 shoppers at Sufi Mart along Zoo Road and Hadejia Road, as well as Barakat Stores on Lodge Road, received shopping vouchers ranging from N10,000 to N100,000, with MTN footing the bills on the spot.

Speaking to Daily Trust, the Customer Operations Manager for MTN’s Northwest Region, Usman Umaru Abdulwahab, said the campaign was designed to bring curated experiences, giveaways, and acts of kindness to communities across Nigeria.

“The campaign, themed ‘Vibe with the Y’elloTide’, will run from mid-November through early January. It reflects our brand’s purpose of making life brighter by celebrating with customers and giving back during the Yuletide season,” he said.

He explained that unlike typical end-of-year events concentrated in major cities, MTN’s Y’elloTide initiative is inclusive, reaching every region and customer segment.

“From Lagos to Kano, Abuja to Enugu, the campaign features mall activations, market pop-ups, digital engagements, and surprise appearances in everyday spaces such as bus parks and weddings,” Abdulwahab added.

One of the beneficiaries, Zubaida Rabi’u, expressed her excitement, saying, “I have been using MTN for more than 20 years, and today I was given a N50,000 voucher. Initially, I spent N39,200, so after receiving the voucher, I went back and bought more items. I thank MTN so much for this and I truly appreciate it.”
