Speaking at the launch of the resource centres, the state Deputy Governor, Otunba Titi-Laoye Tomori said the project, championed by the board of Multichoice Nigeria and Innovative Technology Literacy Services Ltd, has provided valuable learning resource components to support the government efforts towards achieving Millennium Development Goals in Nigeria education sector.
Osun is the 29th state to benefit from the company’s projects in Africa, said Tomori, and the ninth phase of fitting schools with multimedia resource centres.
Each school resource centre is equipped with a digital TV decoder and accessories, TV set, surge protector, a UPS, white board, burglary protector for the equipment, generator, chairs and tables and digital-TV education bouquet comprising seven channels, said the company’s public relations officer Segun Fayose.
“We have been operating in Nigeria for more than 10 years and this is our way of giving back to the society. Currently we have 254 resource centres which we are operating across Nigerian schools,” he said.
Also speaking, Aderonke Bello, the Managing Director Innovative Technology Literacy Services which partnered Multichoice on the projects, said it is unfortunate that most schools still rely on teachers and text books at a time when textbooks have been usurped by electronic books.
“The technology being deployed here are both audio and visual, hence we believe that it will make both the teachers and their students better. And for the teachers we have trained, we deployed you to extend the knowledge to other teachers, so that when you are transferred out of here, the knowledge will still be useful to those coming behind,” Bello said.
