Troops of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) on Operation Yancin Tafki have killed forty Boko Haram terrorists (BHT), in recent clashes.
The spokesman of the MNJTF, Colonel Timothy Antigha, made this known in a statement late Saturday night.
He said the troops comprising Air and Land Components from Chad, Cameroon, Niger Republic and Nigeria have for the second time in about ten days, dealt a devastating blow on Boko Haram Terrorists.
He said, “Last night (Friday) Boko Haram Terrorists operating along the Kamadougou River, between Niger and Nigeria, attacked troops location in Gueskerou, about 30 kilometres from Diffa in the Niger Republic.”
He said, “However, the troops showed valour and gallantry by fiercely defending their location and killing twenty-seven terrorists, destroying 6 Gun Trucks and capturing several pieces of equipment, arms and ammunition.”
He added that a few terrorists who escaped the fire-fight were observed running towards Gashigar in Nigerian territory and were being pursued.
He also said, “Between 3 and 6 pm today (Saturday) MNJTF troops also confronted Boko Haram Terrorists around Abadam, in the general area of Mallam Fatori.”
He said thirteen Boko Haram Terrorists were killed in a fire-fight with the troops with arms and ammunition captured.
Antigha said the items captured include: thirty-two AK 47 rifles, 5 AA gun, one thousand 7.62 mm ammo, five hundred 12.7mm ammo and one Boko Haram Terrorist captured alive.
Also captured are 5 motorcycles, 1 motorcycle destroyed, 4 gun trucks destroyed, 3 gun trucks captured, 3 general purpose machine guns captured 3 hand grenades captured.
Antigha recalled that about 10 days ago, MNJTF troops also struck Boko Haram Terrorists in Dorou in the Niger Republic, neutralizing many of them in the process.
He said, “The MNJTF is determined to intensify subsidiary operations such as raids, ambushes and fighting patrols among others until the last stronghold of Boko Haram in the Lake Chad Basin is neutralized.”
The MNJTF is made up of four sectors, sector one is in Cameroon, with headquarters in Mora, Sector two is in Chad with Headquarters in Baga-Sola, sector three is in Nigeria with headquarters in Baga and sector four is in Niger Republic, with Headquarters in Diffa, the headquarters of the entire force is in Ndjamena.
Launched about a month ago, Operation Yancin Tafki’s primary objective is to free the Lake Chad area, dominate the Lake and also eliminate Boko Haram strongholds within the area.
