The Edo State Police Command has arrested seven suspects in connection with the killing of a professor with University of Benin. 

The Commissioner of Police, Johnson Babatunde Kokumo, disclosed this while parading 31 suspects arrested for alleged armed robbery, kidnapping, cultism and unlawful possession of fire arms.

“Two suspects were arrested before I assumed office but between Monday and Tuesday we have arrested additional five suspects in connection with the professor’s killing,” he said.

The CP explained that a mobile phone belonging to the late professor was recovered from one of the suspects, adding that “a family member of the deceased had identified the phone to be that of the late university don.”

The late Professor Paul Otasowie of Electrical and Electronics department was shot dead on October 4 by gunmen in front of his house in Ekhehuan area, Oredo Local Government of the state.

Other suspects paraded include, a syndicate group specialised in robbing filling stations at night when sales to customers had closed.

“A gang of suspected kidnappers who planned to abduct a prominent citizen in the state has also been arrested before carrying out the operation,” he said.
