A 23-year-old murder suspect, Ahmed Abdullahi, allegedly committed suicide while in custody of the police in Nasarawa State.

The suspect, popularly called Abba, was arrested for allegedly killing his step-mother with a knife in Agyaragu area of Lafia and was in detention at the Police Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (CIID) where he reportedly killed himself.

A source, who does not want to be named, said the deceased kept hitting his head on the concrete wall of the cell where he was detained pending the conclusion of investigation and arraignment in court.

Spokesman of the police in the state ASP Ramhan Nansel said the police will address the press tomorrow on the circumstances that led to the death of the suspect in police cell.
