The DG made this remark yesterday at the occasion of the sensitization programme held at Nok Kaduna state.

He said that  the significance of Nok terracotta sculptures  to  the commission  and indeed Nigeria is underlined by the fact that,  they occupy a pride of place in all our international   exhibitions  aimed at showcasing Nigeria`s artistic cultural traditions.

He said that the commission is still actively engaged with the Nok terracotta sculptures in the areas of collection, preservation, showcasing results of current research and launching an active interface between the NCMM   and the public.

“The National Commission for Museums and Monuments tends to open the Nok   museum to the general public for purpose of research, exhibition and presentation of the Nok cultural civilization. We also encourage people to see Nok as cultural tourism destination area where they will acquaint themselves with various Nok cultural sites which include ancient caves, tree of life, storage caves, old settlement among several others.  We will seek the cooperation of partners and other public spirited individuals to make Nok Museum, a place of attraction. We encourage visitors, school children and the general public to patronize the museum when it is officially opened.”
