According to the President of the Association and Medical Director of Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital, Maiduguri, Dr Isa Bukar Rabebe, the gesture is to alleviate the sufferings of the less-privileged. He said that the free medical services became imperative due to the economic hardship being experienced across the country.

He added that from field experience, most less-privileged persons find it difficult to seek medical attention at the hospitals or clinics due to financial constraints. Dr Rabebe said the decision to provide free medical services, once every month, was the association’s way of complementing government’s effort at providing primary healthcare service, while the decision to provide such services at different locations every month was to ensure widespread for beneficiaries.

The head of the benefiting ward, Lawan Zanna Mohammed Mai Jir, commended the efforts of the association and said that the large turn out of residents was a demonstration of their appreciation of the philanthropic gesture.
