The group particularly decried lack of seriousness in the rescue efforts of over 200 secondary schoolgirls abducted from Chibok in Borno State.
A statement signed by SAP Director, Good Governance, Mrs Ganiyat Tijani-Adenle, yesterday said violence against women and children is increasing by the day and law enforcement agencies seem helpless.
Mrs Tijani-Adenle said: “Al-Mu’minaat SAP is worried that cases of violence against women in Nigeria will continue to skyrocket if government refuses to end this culture of impunity by bringing perpetrators of violence against women in all forms to justice.”
There is no way, she said, the country can develop and attain any progress if a significant part of its population are beaten in their homes, denied economic and social rights, harassed on the streets, raped at vulnerable circumstances and bullied on the internet to mention a few.
“The greatest threat to the lives and progress of women is violence. Nigeria needs to eliminate the culture of impunity and end violence against women as protecting women is a matter of human rights, a condition for social justice and a necessity for global development,” she said.
