The Muslim Media Practitioners of Nigeria (MMPN) has elected a 12-member national executive council (NEC) that would pilot the affairs of the association in the next two years.

The new executives were elected by a five-member Shura (electoral panel) during MMPN second national convention held in Abuja and themed, “2019: Our Role”. 

Those elected are Alhaji Abdur-Rahman Balogun, President (Abuja), Buhari Bukar Bello, Vice President (Plateau), Abdul-Azeez Wale Abd-Rasheed, Chief Missioner (Oyo), Tajudeen Adebanjo, Secretary (Lagos), Abubakar Suleiman, Assistant Secretary (Nasarawa), and Adebayo Abdur-Rofih Treasurer (Oyo).

Also are Jubril Bada Financial Secretry (Ondo), Yaqub Popoola, Publicity Secretary (Ekiti), Bilqees Oladimeji Welfare Secretary (Kwara), Aisha Alli Auditor (Abuja), Kabir Garba South-West Coordinator (Lagos) and Mustapha Abubakar North-Central Coordinator (Kwara).

The association, in a communiqué, issued at the end of the convention, condemned the renewed killings in some part of the country, and urged the federal government to get to the root cause of the crisis.

“The MMPN is reminding those who enjoyed killings others in the name of religion that there is no compulsion in religion, as Islam was not spread with force, bombs or killings, but with wisdom and good character. 

“As we approach 2019 general elections, the association calls on all lovers of peace, stakeholders in Nigeria project and media practitioners to ensure justice, fairness, and mutual understanding. There should be no bloodletting, killing and maiming because of power as power comes from Allah,” said the communiqué jointly signed by President AbdurRahman Balogun and Secretary to the Convention, Hakeem Adebumiti.

It urged media practitioners to exercise their watchdog role in public interest.
