The Guild of Muslim Professionals (GMP), Abuja Chapter has urged the Federal Government housing agencies to engage Muslims in mortgage and other housing policies to maximize the success of the policies.

This is contained in the communique of the guild at the end of its monthly meeting held at the Sheikh Abubakar Gummi Academy, Asokoro, Abuja.

The meeting themed “Status of Islam and Muslims in Nigeria and the Role of Muslims in Nation Building” was chaired by Nasiru Abubakar of Daily Trust Newspaper and was attended by professionals drawn across the private and public sector.

The convener of the forum Abdus Sabur Oliyide, said the parley is an open platform to create an atmosphere of intellectual engagement between Muslim professionals and scholars to proffering practicable solution to citizens’ common problems as a nation.

“The participants observed that the Nigerian Muslims are usually marginalized and financially excluded by federal governments housing agencies which have continuously structured their policies in such a way that considerations are never given to its Muslim citizens who are co-contributors to the pool of such funds.

“Participants observed with dismay the absence of the culture of respect for citizens’ believe and value in the way some of the federal government agencies and departments conduct their businesses. Muslims are known to have value system and a way of life which ought to be respected and factored in when policies are finalized by the various ministries, departments and agencies of the federal government,” it said.

Participants who therefore call for collaborations to promote the culture of mutual respect and regards for citizens’ value system and way of life also call for practical solutions to challenges around housing, and steps through which quality education and business ethics can be cultivated.
