The Federation of Muslim Women Association in Nigeria (FOMWAN) has empowered 27 vulnerable and underprivileged women drawn from eight metropolitan local councils of Kano State.

The initiative, the association said, was borne out of the desire for self-sufficiency among vulnerable women in the face of the current COVID-19 pandemic which is characterised by economic hardship.

Each of the 27 beneficiaries, who are mostly widows, was given a cash donation of N10,000 to start up a business for personal development.

Speaking while presenting the cash donation to the beneficiaries at Kofar Nassarawa Kano, Hajiya Binta Muhammad Abubakar, the state Amirah of FOMWAN, said the gesture was meant to uplift the vulnerable women to be economically and financially independent.
