A Muslim women group, the Sabil Charitable International Organization (SCIO) has raised an alarm over the increasing rate of child abuse in Nigeria.
The group during a lecture on the occasion of its Annual Ramadan lecture with the theme, “Child Rights and Abuse in Islamic Perspective,” held in Kaduna, attributed the spate of social vices being witnessed to the effects of various forms of child abuse.

Speaking on the topic, a lecturer with the Department of Accounting, Ahmadu Bello University, (ABU), Zaria, Prof. Ahmed Bello Dogarawa, cautioned against all forms of child abuse, stressing it was against the teaching and norms of Islam.
He said the various forms of child abuse including physical, mental, sexual and negligent of the child are not permitted in Islam, noting that there are many verses of the Quran that discussed it and Hadiths that strongly warned against it.
Earlier, the President of SCIO, Halimatu Sadiya Abdu, said the annual Ramadan lecture was aimed at improving the quality of life of the people spiritually, socially, economically and morally.
