Muslim women have been advised to prioritize seeking Islamic and other beneficial knowledge to enable them contribute meaningfully to national development. An Islamic cleric, Hajia Busrat Shafi’i, gave the advice at the opening of a training forum organised by Al-Mu’minaat (The Believing Women) Organisation with the theme “The Only Hope”.

“Knowledge is very important to everything we do especially on religious matter,” said Hajia Busrat, who is also a deputy director at Lagos State Ministry of Education.

“Many Muslims feel shy to defend the religion because they don’t understand what it entails. The way out is to continuously improve our knowledge, and must not relent at any point in time,” she added.

The knowledge, she said, should not be limited to Islamic teachings but everything that is beneficial. “A Muslim must be well informed about happenings in his/her surrounding and must be able to contribute intelligently to its development.”

She also tasked Muslims on effective time management, saying “time management is very important in the lives of Muslims. And due to so many distractions in today’s world, we get ourselves involved in unproductive things.” The National Secretary of the group, Hajia Aisha Adams, said the event was organized for Muslim women to update their knowledge about life purpose and how to play a significant role in the societal development.

Speaking on the choice of the theme, Hajia Aisha said the solution to the numerous problems of today’s world is to return to Allah and His legislations in the Holy Qur’an as practiced by Prophet Muhammad (SAW).  The event also featured presentation of award to Barr. Firdaos Amasa for her doggedness in fighting for Hijab as well as empowerment for women. The empowerment, she said, was to uplift them in their various fields.
