The Muslim Council of Britain welcomes the news that Martin Stokes, 25, who drove into a crowd of worshippers leaving the Al-Majlis Al-Hussaini Centre in Cricklewood, North London on 19 September 2018, has been jailed for 5 years.

Stokes, of Wembley, admitted dangerous driving, causing serious injury by dangerous driving and harassment. He has been jailed for 5 years and has also been banned from driving for seven-and-a-half years.

Harun Khan, Secretary General of the Muslim Council of Britain said, “Here we have a man who shouted racist and Islamophobic taunts before driving into a crowd of innocent worshippers leaving the Islamic Centre after a night of peaceful prayers and devotion to God. Thankfully, no lives were lost in this cowardly attack, however it reiterates that it is so important to tackle hate, in all its forms, and create better understanding between communities in Britain today.”

“People of all faiths and communities should be able to live their lives without intimidation and fear. We would like to thank the Police for their swift action in investigating this issue and bringing the perpetrator to justice.”
