The National Chairman of Arewa Citizens Action for Change (ACAC), Barrister Sadiq Abubakar Ilelah disclosed this yesterday in Bauchi while interacting with religious and community leaders.
He said the association, which comprised Christians and Muslims, had the sole objective of promoting peace and unity among adherents of the two major religions. He said the group had educated the youths on the dangers of being used to cause chaos in the country.
Barrister Ilelah said politicians had been using religion to bring disunity among them, but, “now we are saying in all sense of humility and respect that this time it has come to an end.”
He expressed the optimism that the issue of using youths by politicians as yardsticks for disturbance in the society had been nipped in the bud.
North-East Zonal Chairman of the Christians Association of Nigeria (CAN), Reverend Shuaibu Byal and the Bauchi State Chairman Shariah Commission, Malam Mustafa Baba Ilelah, enjoined northern Christians and Muslims to join hands towards ensuring that the leadership of the country returned to the region in the forthcoming elections.
The clerics prayed for the North and its unity, saying, “In the North, we cannot rule ourselves alone. We must also partner with the South to be able to have a government that will lead to prosperity in the society.”
They explained that adherents of the two religions were tired of being used by politicians who often left them in trouble. They warned youthsto resistthe temptations from politicians who would waste them and darken their future.
