The Director, International Institute of Islamic Banking and Finance (IIIBF), Bayero University Kano (BUK), Prof. Binta Tijjani-Jibril, has urged Muslims to make conscious and deliberate efforts to develop and nurture entrepreneurial culture.
She gave the charge in Abuja at the Ramadan Public Lecture of the Al-Mustofiyyah Society of Nigeria, with the theme: “Entrepreneurship as a means of Economic Stability in Nigeria Family, Islamic Perspective”.
According to her, the Muslims must individually and collectively reverse its dependency mind set and change its orientation from that of a consumer nation to a producer nation. “We must harness our energy and passion to the establishment of small and medium scale enterprises and direct our vision and mind-sets to entrepreneurship. Tackling youth unemployment must be the centerpiece of our vision,” Tijjani-Jibril said.
She said that entrepreneurship would drastically over-dependence on government jobs for employment and poverty alleviation.
“I urged every one of us to be financially intelligent, financially literate and open our eyes to see the opportunities that abound around us. Every problem you see in the society is an opportunity for entrepreneurship,” she added.
The chairman of the occasion Ustaz Abdulrasaq Olayode said Muslims obligations in Islam should not base on Solat (prayers) alone and should try to multiply their resources.
Also, the Chairman of the society Alhaji Sanusi Femi Alaka commended the laudable achievements of the society for almost 10 years.
He said the even marked the third pubic Ramadan lecture and it was dedicated to the women, with the aim and objectives of the society being to advanced Islamic learning within its tenets.
